Private photo vault basics
A private photo vault adds a separate access step for selected photos and videos. It is most useful when you know which media needs extra privacy and how that media is backed up.
Decide what needs protection
Choose specific albums, documents, or personal media. A vault is easier to manage when you import only what you need, rather than moving your entire photo library without a plan.
Use layers of protection
- Secure the iPhone first. Use a strong device passcode, keep iOS updated, and enable Face ID or Touch ID where available.
- Import selectively. Use the system photo picker when an app offers it, and review access requests.
- Set a separate vault lock. Choose a PIN you can remember and do not share.
- Check originals and backups. Verify whether the original remains in Photos and whether your backup covers the vault content before deleting anything.
- Test recovery. Understand the app’s recovery options before relying on it for irreplaceable files.
Which app should you use?
iLockBox offers a private vault for photos, videos, documents, and notes, with Face ID, Touch ID, or PIN access. Secret Photo Vault and Private Safe are additional options in the Appreator catalog. Compare each app’s current features and privacy terms before choosing.
Frequently asked questions
Does a vault replace a phone passcode?
No. A vault adds a lock for selected content. Your device passcode and operating system updates remain important.
Should I delete the original photo after importing it?
First confirm the imported copy opens correctly and that you have a backup. Deleting the original before checking can cause permanent loss.
