Free up iPhone storage safely

A full iPhone can make photos, updates, and downloads difficult. The safest cleanup starts by identifying what uses space and reviewing each item before removal.

Check what is using space

Open iPhone Settings → General → iPhone Storage to see the major categories. Photos and videos can be large, but apps, downloads, and messages may matter too. Note the category before choosing a cleanup tool.

Review before deleting

  1. Back up anything important. Confirm your photos and documents are available in your chosen backup before large deletions.
  2. Start with obvious duplicates. Compare similar photos and keep the best original. Do not assume every similar-looking image is safe to remove.
  3. Inspect large videos. Decide whether you need the original quality before compressing or deleting a recording.
  4. Check screenshots and downloads. These are often easier to review than personal photos.
  5. Empty Recently Deleted only after checking. This final step can make recovery harder.

Where SpaceFresh fits

SpaceFresh can scan for duplicate photos and other cleanup candidates on your device, then let you review them. Its free tier includes limited cleanups; the app page shows current premium options. Treat scan results as suggestions and make the final choice yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Should I delete every duplicate the scanner finds?

No. Compare image quality, edits, dates, and context before removing anything. A near duplicate may be the version you want to keep.

Can compression replace a backup?

No. Compression reduces file size; it does not create an independent backup. Keep originals elsewhere if you may need them later.
